How to Maximize Energy Savings with ecobee Smart Security and SmartSensor for doors and windows

When paired with SmartSensor for doors and windows and Smart Security, ecobee's SmartThermostat is now the first to automatically pause heating or cooling. To reduce excess energy use, SmartSensor pauses your HVAC if it detects that a door or window has been open for five minutes or more. ecobee SmartOwners will receive a notification about which door or window is open, with the option to pause or resume the system.¹ When a door or window has been closed again for 30 seconds, heating or cooling will resume.

Requested by ecobee SmartOwners, this powerful new feature offers peace of mind, energy conservation, and simplifies home management. Pause when open is especially helpful during the summer months when families may open doors and windows to let in fresh air, but forget to turn off their air conditioning.

ecobee Smart Security also allows SmartOwners to come and go as they please without keypads, countdowns, and false alarms. Wi-Fi and geofencing help Smart Security detect registered family members when they arrive or leave, and automatically arms or disarms the home. Smart Security enhances SmartSensor for doors and windows too, allowing them to notify SmartOwners about entries directly through the ecobee app.
