What does Professional Installation by TechEasy include?

Professional Installation is available for one ecobee Smart Thermostat, one Smart Doorbell Camera (wired), or both. Choose the bundled installation option and save $14. Please note, at this time you can only make one professional installation purchase per order. If you would like installation for multiple thermostats or doorbell cameras, please purchase them as separate orders.

Smart Doorbell Camera (wired) installation

In the case of the Smart Doorbell Camera (wired), installation includes all work required to install the device—including, if needed, removal of your existing doorbell and replacement of the Transformer, the chime box, or both. You may either provide the replacement hardware or purchase it directly from TechEasy at an additional cost. Keep in mind that if purchasing through TechEasy, the technician may not have the part on hand and may need to order it, which could require a follow-up visit. Any replacement Transformer or chime box purchased through TechEasy will be billed separately, as the hardware itself isn't included in the professional installation price.

What if I don't have a doorbell system, transformer, or chime box, or my existing doorbell system needs upgrading? Can TechEasy still install my Smart Doorbell Camera (wired)?

Yes, for an additional fee (see price list below), TechEasy can install a Smart Doorbell Camera even if you don't have an existing wired doorbell setup or if your current system needs upgrading. Keep in mind that Smart Doorbell Camera (wired) cannot connect directly to your household's standard power supply, so your installation may require special wiring and a step-down transformer (16V to 24V with a minimum power rating of 10VA).

For installations without existing wired doorbells or those requiring upgrades, TechEasy offers the following additional services to ensure your smart doorbell works perfectly:

• Smart Doorbell Transformer Installation - $129. Provides the necessary power for your smart doorbell.
• Smart Doorbell Hard Line Installation - $219. For running a new wire from the transformer to the Smart Doorbell Camera (wired).
• New Chime with Installation - $139. To upgrade or replace your chime for seamless functionality.

Before confirming your installation appointment, TechEasy will ask key questions to determine your setup needs, such as whether you have an existing doorbell or if your transformer meets the power requirements. While TechEasy will strive to confirm these details in advance, their technician will also bring additional materials, like transformers or chimes to your home, just in case. Rest assured, your technician will assess your specific requirements during the installation process to ensure everything is set up smoothly.

What should I do before purchase?

Use the ecobee Thermostat Compatibility Checker to confirm your home is ready before completing your purchase.

What does installation include?

Installation covers all work required to set up the device, including the Power Extender Kit (PEK) if needed.

A note on Smart Thermostat Essential installation with the PEK:

The PEK is included with the Smart Thermostat Premium and Enhanced thermostat models, but it is not included with the Smart Thermostat Essential. If you're purchasing Smart Thermostat Essential, we recommend using the Compatibility Checker before purchase to see if your installation will require one. If your installation requires the PEK, we recommend adding the PEK to your order as your technician may not have one on hand. Also keep in mind, if your installation requires the PEK, your TechEasy technician will need access to your furnace control board.

A note on the Smart Thermostat Essential Trim Kit:

The Essential thermostat doesn't include a trim kit, and because it has a compact design, you may notice a gap where your previous thermostat was. For the best results, we therefore recommend adding a trim kit to your order (sold separately). Do note, your TechEasy technician may also have one on hand for an additional charge.

What if the technician determines installation isn't possible?

In rare cases, existing home wiring or setup may not be compatible with professional installation. If that's the case, you should be eligible for a refund. Please reach out to our Customer Support team to cancel your installation, initiate a return, and process your refund.

Can I buy the installation service without purchasing a device?

Yes, Professional Installation can be purchased separately by adding it to your cart from this page.

How many installations can I purchase per order?

You can only purchase one installation service per thermostat or doorbell camera order. If you require multiple installations, please purchase them as separate orders. If you would like installation for both a thermostat and a doorbell camera, consider the bundled installation option and save $14.

What if I’m missing a transformer or chime box?

If required hardware is not available at the time of installation, the technician may need to order a transformer or schedule a follow-up visit to complete installation. HelloTech does not offer chime boxes for purchase. Any transformer purchased through HelloTech will be billed separately, as hardware is not included in the professional installation price.

What happens after I purchase the Professional Installation service? 

1. You will receive an email with an order confirmation from ecobee.
2. After you receive your order confirmation from ecobee, check your inbox for a separate email from TechEasy with instructions to schedule your technician visit. If you don't see it, check your spam folder.
3. Once you've received your TechEasy welcome email, follow the steps listed in the email to book and schedule your installation service. If you need assistance with your booking, you can reach out to TechEasy customer service by calling 1-844-441-TECH (8324).
4. On the scheduled day, a TechEasy technician will arrive at your doorstep at the chosen time and install your device. Installation usually takes between one and two hours. Please note that an adult must be present to let the technician in, as they will need access to the electrical panel, chime box, and/or furnace control board depending on your device and setup.   

How long does it take to receive and install a device? 

Installation scheduling depends on delivery time and TechEasy’s availability, but you will be contacted promptly after your order is processed.   

Can I reschedule my appointment?

Yes. To reschedule, open the calendar invite for your service appointment and select the rebooking option, or call 1-844-441-TECH (8324).

• Rescheduling more than 3 hours before your appointment is free.
• Rescheduling within 3 hours incurs a $25 fee, payable directly to the technician upon arrival.

If you need to cancel your installation and request a refund:

1. First, cancel your installation order by contacting TechEasy at 1-844-441-TECH (8324).
2. Then, follow the return process below to request a refund from ecobee.

If your appointment was already scheduled, please include confirmation of your cancellation when you reach out.

Good to know: 

• You can cancel at no charge if you do so at least 24 hours before your appointment.
• Cancellations within 24 hours incur a $49 fee.

Return process for ecobee devices purchased together with Pro Installation

Please contact ecobee Customer Support and provide:

1. The email address used to place the order.
2. Your order number (found in your purchase confirmation email).

TechEasy represents and warrants that the Services (a) will be performed in a good and workmanlike manner, using the degree of skill, care, and judgment consistent with customarily accepted good business practices, and (b) will be free from defects. This limited warranty is valid for a period of ninety (90) days following the date the Services were performed. To make a claim under this limited warranty for any Services performed, contact TechEasy by calling 1-844-441-TECH (8324) and they will arrange for a Tech to re-perform the Services. Such re-performance shall be the sole remedy for any claims made under this limited warranty.
