The question comes every year: what do you get the person who has given you so much? After a year where you’ve likely seen family less than normal, somehow the old standbys of a robe or spa gift certificate might not feel like the right way to show moms and mother figures just how much they mean to you.

Not to worry. ecobee has made it easy with gift ideas that keep giving long after Mother’s Day because no one deserves it more than the moms and mother figures in your life.

1) Plant a tree in mom’s name.

If there was ever a gift that keeps on giving, it’s trees. Their long list of benefits includes cleaning the air we breathe, boosting mental and physical health, and helping deal with the greenhouse gases that cause climate change.

Go DIY and plant your own, hire a professional, or find an organization that plants trees in someone’s honor. In many towns and cities, you can pay to have a tree planted in someone’s name and even pick a message for a plaque to accompany the tree. Not only will you be helping the environment, but you’ll give mom a nice spot to think of you each time she watches her gift grow.

2) Encourage mom to learn something new.

Think back: has mom always talked about wanting to learn something, but just never had the time? Use Mother’s Day to give her the nudge she needs to explore a new skill, activity, or knowledge. Whether it’s learning a new language, ukulele lessons, or an Italian cooking class, she’ll feel special and appreciated with this unique gift idea tailored to her interests.

One small benefit of the pandemic is that online learning opportunities are more available than ever. They can offer a great opportunity to support educators and small business that have been impacted by the events of the last year, while also helping mom explore one of her many interests.

3) Give a new mom the gift of Sweet Dreams.

Becoming a mom is hard. Having the right tools and tech can go a long way to making life a little easier. When ecobee learned that parents were using SmartCamera with voice control as a baby monitor, we made some key feature upgrades to make it even easier to use and created the Sweet Dreams Baby Kit.

The bundle includes SmartCamera to keep a watchful eye on your little one with 1080p HD video as well as SmartThermostat with voice control and SmartSensor to help keep your home and nursery the ideal temperature for baby. The app brings it all together with the ability to control the temperature and see and hear everything happening in baby’s room. It even offers audio monitoring so she can still hear baby when her phone is locked or using other apps, freeing her to focus on other things during nap and bedtime.

One of the best parts is that this bundle is made to grow with the family. Instead of becoming e-waste after the first few years, the camera can be used as a playroom or home security monitoring device and the SmartThermostat will keep your family comfortable for years to come.

With the addition of ecobee Smart Security, you get access to 30-day video storage so mom can share and relive sweet moments with baby, making this a gift for grandparents and family too. Sweet Dreams Baby Kit also works as a present for the future because the camera does more with less, reducing waste and the smart thermostat helps you save 23% on annual energy costs.* Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to help protect the environment for future generations.

4) Give back in mom’s name.

Sometimes the best way to pay mom back for all she does is to pay it forward. Think about a cause close to her heart and set up a one-time or recurring contribution. It’s a simple way to show her you care about what’s important to her while giving back where it’s needed. And there’s no shortage of places to give from environmental organizations to food banks to children’s hospitals to animal rescues. Mom will appreciate that you care about something that matters to her and you can feel good about giving a helpful and meaningful gift this Mother’s Day.

5) Help mom breathe easy.

A healthy home is a happy home and there are few things more important than the air we breathe, especially with the amount of time spent indoors the last year. Air purifiers are a great way to improve indoor air quality (air filters for your furnace are another). A few things to consider when looking for the right air purifier are filter type and replacement frequency, noise level, and whether it’s ENERGY STAR® certified.

There are plenty of options for different budgets, ranging from simple tabletop models to high tech luxury options. Whatever you choose, it will show mom you care about her wellbeing and helping improve her living environment for years to come.

There are lots of options for meaningful gifts that keep on giving. Whatever you can do to make her feel appreciated will go a long way. You know Mom well enough to know that you can’t go wrong when you give a gift from the heart.
