In the last year, we’ve spent more time than ever indoors. ecobee SmartOwners have been busy redecorating, renovating, and upgrading their smart devices to transform home into a place of calm and peaceful sanctuary. Home is a place where moments of wonder transpire, and anything is possible.

Whether you’re dreaming of your next big project or looking for simple ways to incorporate smart home products, here are our favorite home décor trends with inspiration directly from the #myecobeehome community.

Home is a place where moments of wonder transpire, and anything is possible.

1) Say hello to neutrals.

Grey, taupe, and white. Neutrals are never just bland, beige, or boring. In fact, they can act as a flexible base that you can add complementary layers and patterns to. Cool or warm, find a neutral foundation color that’s just right for your home.

2) Choose vintage furniture for sustainability.

The allure of unboxing something new is always exciting, but what about scoring a vintage gem? Don’t let scratches scare you. Look for solid wood furniture than can be refinished for an easy weekend project. From incorporating reclaimed wood to sanding down an old sideboard, give neglected furniture a second life in your home. If DIY is not your thing, shop for gently-used or restored pieces in your local second-hand shop or vintage store.

3) Textures that calm.

Rough or smooth. Introducing a variety of textures can provide a sense of balance and instantly make your home look magazine-ready. Natural textures like driftwood, clay, and stone mix well with soft, plush throw blankets to transform a room from sterile to cozy. Two or three distinct textures in a space bring a sense of harmony without overwhelming the senses.

4) Introduce a touch of nature.

Incorporate the most calming elements of nature to your décor. Studies show indoor and outdoor green spaces can improve our sense of well-being. From stress reduction to improved memory retention, researchers published in Psychology Today found that “People who surround themselves with plant life and other forms of natural beauty, indoors and out, experience emotional and mental health benefits that have a positive impact on their social, psychological, physical, cognitive, environmental, and spiritual well-being.” A large statement plant or collection of your favorite succulents can help bring a sense of ease.

5) Do more with less.

Minimalism is a home décor trend that isn’t going anywhere. ecobee SmartOwners are always looking for ways to do more with less. And we've ensured form hasn't eclipsed function with our lineup of smart products. Although they're designed to blend into your interior surroundings, SmartSensors for doors and windows detect motion and entry. SmartSensor measures temperature and occupancy. And, both SmartCamera and SmartThermostat work with all your favorite home integration partners.
