TORONTO – October 17, 2023 – ecobee, a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems (NYSE: GNRC), today announced the launch of the new Smart Doorbell Camera (wired). The ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera is designed to see what others can’t with an industry-leading vertical field of view, crystal clear vision day or night, and radar sensing technology for more accurate detection and smarter notifications. Unlike most other doorbell cameras, it is designed without a battery in the device to withstand extreme temperatures for always-on security and reliability. The ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera can also seamlessly integrate with ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium to show a live stream directly on the thermostat screen, a first-of-its-kind integration between a smart thermostat and a smart doorbell.

“We set out to make a doorbell camera that would stand apart from the rest. One that could see what others can't–like visitors from head-to-toe and packages right up against your door–even in extreme weather. Our new Smart Doorbell Camera gives homeowners the full picture with crystal clear vision, day or night,” said ecobee founder & CEO Stuart Lombard. “The new Smart Doorbell Camera works even better with the rest of our ecobee smart home devices and Smart Security service, from showing a livestream of the camera right on the ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium to detecting the difference between people and packages on your doorstep.”

Sees what others can’t

The new Smart Doorbell Camera has an industry-leading 175° vertical field of view, so homeowners can see packages right up against their door and guests from head to toe. With enhanced low light vision and cinematic 1080p HD video, residents can see a crystal-clear image, day or night, for complete peace of mind.

Smart Doorbell Camera can also seamlessly integrate with ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium to show a live stream directly on the thermostat screen. Customers can answer the door and talk to guests from anywhere via the ecobee app, Apple Watch, and Smart Thermostat Premium.

Epic durability for always-on security

Like other ecobee devices, ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera is built to last with high-quality materials, including a machined-glass front and an aluminum alloy back casing. Because it doesn’t require a battery in the device, it is more reliable even in the worst weather. Most video doorbells on the market need batteries in the device to work, which can make them prone to fail in extreme heat or cold. With IP65 waterproofing and dust protection, the Smart Doorbell Camera can last in rain and snow, and operate in temperatures ranging from -13 to 113°F/-25 to 45°C.

The new doorbell camera was designed to be a sleek and modern fixture in the home for years to come, with memorable care provided by ecobee’s customer support team seven days a week, and an industry-leading three-year warranty. ecobee supports its products with continuous improvements through software and firmware updates even years down the line.

Smarter alerts, fewer unnecessary notifications

Powered by multiple layers of intelligence, including advanced radar verification and computer vision, Smart Doorbell Camera provides homeowners with more accurate detection to provide notifications that matter. Customers can also set an Activity Zone–a customized area on a front porch or walkway where the doorbell camera will focus for motion and person detection–to make notifications even smarter.

Protect your home with ecobee Smart Security

ecobee Smart Security uses advanced sensor technology to help protect what matters most. With a Smart Security subscription to a Standard or Complete plan, the Smart Doorbell Camera will automatically record motion, people, and package deliveries as video clips, which can be stored and shared for 30 days. Subscribers can also receive notifications with real-time images on a smartphone or Apple Watch and a siren that homeowners can sound to scare off intruders.

Plus, with the Smart Security Complete plan, customers can have peace of mind that their home is protected day or night with professional monitoring. If the homeowner is unable to respond to alerts, RapidSOS agents can verify the emergency before securely sharing critical data with 911, including video evidence captured by Smart Doorbell Camera, to enable a faster response time.1

All customers who purchase a Smart Doorbell Camera and are new to ecobee Smart Security will automatically receive a free two-month trial. After the trial, customers can begin protecting their homes with the Standard plan for just $5 USD per month–or $50 per year for $10 annual savings. Upgrade to the Complete plan for professional monitoring and support for unlimited cameras in one home for just $10 USD per month–or $90 per year for $30 annual savings–with no contract or commitments. Comparatively, leading competitors charge up to $35 per month or $420 per year for professional monitoring.

Unlock more features with the rest of the ecobee smart home

Smart Doorbell Camera seamlessly integrates with ecobee’s whole home product line-up to create an easy-to-use, next generation security system that helps keep homes safe and comfortable, and helps save customers money on annual heating, cooling, and home insurance costs.2

When armed with Smart Security, homeowners will receive motion and entry alerts and a siren will automatically sound from the thermostat when the system is triggered. Starting today, subscribers with a Smart Thermostat Premium can share a pin with trusted guests, like a dogwalker or childcare provider, so they can arm or disarm the home directly through a keypad screen on the thermostat.3 The system can also pause heating or cooling when a door or window is left open to avoid wasting energy. Plus, it can send an alert when it detects a smoke alarm or when there is a sudden temperature drop that could lead to frozen pipes.

Customers can purchase the Total Security and Savings bundle, which includes the Smart Doorbell Camera, Smart Thermostat Premium with SmartSensor, and SmartSensor for doors and windows 2-pack, for $399 USD, for $90 worth of savings / $534.99 CAD for $115 in savings.
