Greenhouse gases released by landfills are a major driver of climate change. Eliminating needless waste by keeping our energy-saving devices in use as long as possible is good for ecobee, our customers, and, most of all, the planet.

Extending the lifecycle of ecobee devices by keeping our products in use longer reduces e-waste and doesn’t require the extraction of raw materials needed to build a brand-new device. This preserves the earth’s finite resources and means we can sell recertified devices at a lower price.

Returned devices are inspected and tested by ecobee engineers, who identify and repair any issues. A returned device must then pass the same quality assurance test as a brand-new ecobee3 lite thermostat before it’s recertified.

On average, ecobee customers reduce their household’s carbon footprint by just over one ton per year. That’s like planting 15 trees and letting them capture and store carbon for 10 years.
