Your ecobee devices generate useful information throughout the day, from comfort settings and energy usage to HVAC activity and security events. But understanding what’s happening at home shouldn’t mean having to piece it all together yourself.

Give your home a voice with Home Summary
Home Summary is a new opt-in, AI-powered feature in the ecobee app that brings key information from across your home into one daily recap.
It summarizes how your heating and cooling system is operating, how weather affects your home's comfort, and how your thermostat manages energy usage. Smart Security subscribers can also see relevant security information, including recent camera events, member activity, and whether the home is secured.
Instead of checking different parts of the app and connecting the dots, you can get a convenient overview of your home's activity and identify anything that may need a closer look.
Here’s what Home Summary can help you understand:

Comfort: Understand how the system is behaving and how indoor conditions like humidity can impact how the home feels.

Energy: See how outdoor weather conditions influence heating and cooling performance, get a weather-informed outlook on what to expect next, and how ecobee helps optimize comfort while reducing energy use.

Security: Review important activity, alerts, incidents, and changes to the home’s armed status so you can keep an eye on your family’s safety.

Solar and Battery: Monitor battery charge, backup readiness, and solar vs. grid energy usage. Receive alerts about any unusual activity and a weather-informed outlook on what to expect so you stay prepared.

Looking back at something that happened around your home can mean sorting through multiple recordings, especially when you're not sure exactly when an event occurred.
Three new ecobee Smart Security features — Activity Summary, Video Descriptions, and Quick Search — make it easier to review security events and get the information you need.
Activity Summary: See how a moment unfolded
Sometimes, separate clips and events make it hard to see the whole story.
Activity Summary turns related home events into simple summaries in your Activity Feed, so you can understand what happened at home at a glance.
For example, you’ll see “A package was delivered and brought inside” as a consolidated summary in your Activity Feed and one push notification on your phone, instead of 4 separate events.
Video Descriptions: Get the details at a glance
Not every event needs a full video review.
Video Descriptions add context to recorded camera events, with concise, plain-language descriptions that help you quickly understand what happened and decide if you’d like to watch the video. You’ll be alerted the moment something is detected with a short description of the clip.
Whether you're checking on your home between meetings or catching up after being away, you can quickly identify recordings that deserve a closer look.
Quick Search: Find a specific moment
Quick Search makes it effortless to find meaningful moments, unusual activity or a misplaced item in your Activity Feed history using your own words.
Maybe you want to check when a package arrived earlier in the week or where you forgot a stuffed animal. Instead of scrolling through your recordings, Quick Search helps you locate the specific moment you're looking for by describing it in your own words.
When will these features be available?
Home Summary began rolling out on October 29, 2026 and the new Smart Security features will roll out by the end of 2026. Customers will gradually see Home Summary become available in the ecobee app over the following weeks, so they may not be accessible to everyone right away. Availability of certain security features will depend on your subscription plan.

Home Summary is an opt-in experience in the ecobee app. Activity Summary is available on ecobee Smart Security Core, Plus, and Advanced plans. Video Descriptions and Quick Search are available to Smart Security Advanced subscribers. To use Quick Search, at least one eligible camera must be opted in to Video Descriptions.
