ecobee3 works with wireless remote sensors to make you more comfortable in your home while saving you money. Here’s how.
What’s wrong with your current thermostat?
Most thermostats are located in the hallway. Since ordinary thermostats only measure temperature in one location, the hallway is comfortable but other rooms are not.
ecobee3 has fixed the problem
Not every room heats or cools the same. By measuring the temperature in the rooms that matter most, ecobee3 helps address hot and cold spots, keeping you comfortable.
Most homes only need a few sensors, however if you're lucky enough to live in a Chateau, rest assured we support up to 32.
ecobee3 and remote sensors measure occupancy
The wireless remote sensors measure temperature and occupancy. By knowing which rooms are occupied, ecobee3 makes smarter heating and cooling decisions, delivering more comfort when you're home, and savings when you're away.
More remote sensor features
If your ecobee3 or wireless remote sensors notice that you are home during a scheduled “Away” period, it will automatically adjust for comfort.
If your ecobee3 or wireless remote sensors see that you are away during a scheduled “Home” period, it will automatically adjust for savings.
ecobee3 and wireless remote sensors know which rooms you’re using, so you’re comfortable wherever you are.
ecobee3 keeps you comfortable and gives you peace of mind. It will warn you of radical sensor readings and prevent them from affecting your home’s heating and cooling.
ecobee3 and wireless remote sensors know the difference between you and your pet, so they will not trigger the sensors.

For more information on how ecobee3 wireless remote sensors work, read our detailed post.
ecobee3 remote sensors come with a battery that lasts for four years because they use the low-power 915MHz frequency to communicate with ecobee3. They’ll even let you know when the battery is running low.
Pairing is as easy as approaching your ecobee3 and pulling the plastic tab on your sensor. If you have multiple ecobee3’s, you can change which thermostat a sensor is paired with any time you want.
Where to place your remote sensors
Place or mount about 5ft off the ground
This will provide the most accurate temperature reading in the room.
Provide a clear view of the room
Make sure your wireless remote sensor has a clear view of the entire room so it knows when the room is occupied.
Let it breathe
Place your wireless remote sensor in an open area so it can measure ambient temperature.
Place within range
Your wireless remote sensor should be placed within 45ft of your thermostat.
More is better
ecobee3 comes with one free remote sensor, but it supports up to 32. Add additional remote sensors and get even more from your ecobee3 wifi thermostat.
