SmartCamera with voice control has always been about more than just security—it’s about connecting with family from anywhere. With the latest app update, it’s now also a dedicated HD Wi-Fi baby monitor that lets you know baby is comfortable and safe, instantly.

The camera’s video and audio come through so crisp, you’ll be able to see baby’s slightest movements and hear their quietest coos, day or night. Soothe baby with your voice from anywhere and lull them to sleep with white noise or the sound of a warm ocean breeze.

We spoke with Matas Sriubiskis, ecobee product manager for SmartCamera, for the top 10 reasons why its dazzling features and remarkable ease of use make SmartCamera as baby monitor the best choice for expecting parents.

10. Setup is simple.

To get started, just select baby monitor as the camera mode when you’re setting up the device. If SmartCamera is already up and running, you can easily toggle back and forth between the baby monitor and security camera modes in the ecobee app.

“We think that once families are vacationing again, parents will love that they can switch SmartCamera into security mode and use it to watch the home when they’re away,” said Sriubiskis.

9. More placement options.

Finding the perfect view is tricky and can frustrate parents at the least convenient times. Poor image quality means that most monitors end up placed in awkward or obtrusive spots, often right beside the crib.

With its quality zoom and unsurpassed 180º field of vision, SmartCamera gives you a multitude of placement options.

“Whether you set SmartCamera on a nearby shelf or wall mount it on the other side of the room, you’ll always get the perfect view,” said Sriubiskis.

8. Controls are intuitive so you can focus on what matters.

The first time you open SmartCamera as a baby monitor, you will be asked to set your preferred view. Pinch and zoom until you’ve found the sweet spot.

See how smoothly and precisely the camera pans and tilts as you drag your finger across the screen. Pinch to zoom in for a closer look or zoom out for a view of the entire nursery. Returning to your preferred view is just as easy—tap pan and then the center button.

“Parents have told us that our baby monitor controls couldn’t be more straightforward,” said Sriubiskis.

7. Check in from anywhere, night or day.

Baby monitors often suffer from frustrating signal loss. SmartCamera, in comparison, connects to your home Wi-Fi for quality that’s consistent and range without limitations.

Whether you’re doing laundry in the basement, gardening in the front yard, or out for a walk while the grandparents watch the kids—the picture and sound you’ll experience in the app remains crisp and clear.

6. Crystal-clear night vision.

SmartCamera sees flawlessly in the dark. Plus, its night vision LEDs dim when it is being used as a baby monitor so as not to disturb baby’s sleep.

5. Work out without worry.

Parents often use nap time to exercise, catch up on chores, or browse social media.

With SmartCamera, you can get more enjoyment out of your downtime. So, settle in as you scroll your newsfeed or work out with the phone locked. Any disturbance from the baby’s room will come through clearly, for better peace of mind.

4. Nothing sounds sweeter.

SmartCamera integrates with Spotify Connect and Amazon Music so you can soothe baby to sleep with music, white noise, and other calming sounds.

And thanks to the selective noise feature, you’ll always hear baby clearly, even when the camera is playing sound.

“SmartCamera automatically dampens other sounds in the room, so that you can hear less white noise and more of your baby,” said Sriubiskis.

3. Help for little wanderers.

Stay one step ahead of your energetic toddler with activity zones. They’re easy to create in the ecobee app. Simply draw boxes around their crib, bed, or out-of-bounds spaces.

Now you’ll be notified each time your little wanderer is up at night or during nap time.

You can go see them or gently coax them back to bed using the two-way talk feature.

2. A camera that grows with your family.

A common problem with baby monitors is that they aren’t built to last and end up in landfills far too frequently.

“We talk to parents all the time who’ve cycled through a different baby monitor for each child because the average monitor is so cheaply made,” said Sriubiskis.

Even if your model does last, once a child outgrows the monitor, it is usually put in the back of a drawer and forgotten until the next baby arrives.

“We see things differently. That’s why we designed SmartCamera to grow with families and serve a variety of purposes, from securing the home, to checking in, and keeping baby safe,” said John Berthels, ecobee vice president of technology, camera.

Once SmartCamera is no longer needed as a baby monitor, it stays useful. One tap transforms the camera into a home monitoring solution that will keep your family safe as your child grows.

Now that’s good value.
