If you’re lucky enough to have a summer home, you may find yourself spending more time there as the weather warms up. You may also want to add some touches that make you and your guests feel more at home.

Here are a few ideas to make your summer stays at your second home feel even more comfortable.

1. Invest in your outdoor space.

When decorating your summer oasis, don’t forget to invest in your garden or landscaping. Your garden will add natural color and beautiful smells to the outdoors that can also be brought inside. Have fun building your garden by choosing your favorite plants, greens, or maybe even fruits and vegetables.

While most planting must be done in the spring or fall, hanging or potted plants can add colour and texture around your deck, porch, or entryway. And if you already have perennials or annuals blooming, make sure you prune them as they wilt to ensure they bloom just as beautifully next year.

2. Add some fun and games.

Games are a great way to pass the time and share some laughs with your friends and family. When the weather is nice, outdoor games ideas include collapsible corn hole, giant Connect 4 or Jenga, badminton, and ladder toss.

For rainy days, Monopoly and Rummy can both keep the family busy all day. It’s also a great idea to have some books and magazines stacked in a common area for your guests to grab when they want some quiet time.

3. Always keep an eye on your home.

Never worry about what is going on back at home with your ecobee SmartCamera with voice control. While you’re at your second home, you want to be able to enjoy your time without worrying if your primary residence is safe and secure. ecobee SmartCamera gives you insight into your home even when you’re not there, allowing you to conveniently check-in right from your smartphone or tablet using the ecobee app.

4. Make your guests feel at home.

We are all guilty of traveling and forgetting something, whether it’s shampoo or a toothbrush. With an extra set of towels and toiletries, you can be prepared knowing that if you or a guest leave something behind, you’re covered.

You also want to remember these moments with them. A memory guest book can help store all your memories with friends and family and it doesn’t have to be a big project. A scrapbook, a few colored pens, stickers, and a disposable or instant camera with printable pictures can help your guests share their favorite summer memories.

5. Pre-cool your home before you arrive.

If you have an ecobee smart thermostat at your second residence, you can also pre-cool your home before you get there, right from your ecobee app. To ensure your second home feels just right, you can also set your Comfort Settings so your ecobee can keep the perfect temperature whether you’re asleep, awake, or away.

With these tips, you should be all set for a wonderful season at your vacation home. For more décor tips, check out our blog post on five home décor trends that inspire.
