Bee-hind the Scenes: Geoff Harricks
byon October 9, 2015
The following is a story from ecobee employee Geoff Harricks. Learn more about life at ecobee!
I liked the idea of joining a startup in a growing market. I learned that the smart thermostat market doubled in 2014, so it feels like I just boarded a rocket ship. We’re growing fast, and I get to grow with it. ecobee still has the start-up “feel” about it, but it’s founded in success and growing fast.
I love that ecobee is a proud Canadian company. I also like the idea of working for a company that produces clean tech. It feels great to be supporting a company that helps the environment.
I’ve only been here a short while, but already I notice that everyone is extremely knowledgeable. It’s a professional work environment, but it’s also relaxed. It feels like there is a creative element in that ideas can be presented to senior management easily and without fear. It’s almost like I’m working in a creative agency, but we’re building a fantastic product.
I’m a program manager for ecobee. That means that I am here to optimize utility partnership programs and streamline the project management process throughout the company.
I think project management is something that I inherently like to do. ecobee will be a great place for me to grow my skills and learn, and for me to develop in my career. I look forward to my job: I get to help eco-peeps work better so that we can continue to deliver the best customer experience, and quickly.
I’ve already noticed that if you want to succeed at ecobee you need to learn as much as possible about the industry and the company. Make a point to be yourself, and enjoy it. It’s a heavy workload, but you get so much out of it, it’s absolutely worth the while.
