Feature Friday: Today Widget

by on September 18, 2015

Just want to check in and make sure everything is running smoothly? With the new Notification Center widget for the ecobee mobile app, you no longer have to open the app to view the most important information.

If you have an iOS device running iOS 8 or later, you can enable the ecobee3 Today Widget to monitor your thermostat and remote sensors directly from Notification Center, without needing to open the ecobee3 mobile app.

The Today Widget will give you a quick overview of the following:

  • Thermostat name (including when the information last updated)
  • Current temperature and desired temperature
  • System mode, system status, and any currently active holds
  • Remote sensor name, current temperature, participation status, and connectivity status

The Today Widget requires Background App Refresh. Enabling background refresh on your ecobee3 Today Widget will allow you to view the most up-to-date information, and when it was last updated. Enabling Background App Refresh will also improve the functionality of the ecobee3 app for Apple Watch. To enable Background App Refresh, navigate to Settings on your Apple device. Select General > Background App Refresh. Navigate to ecobee3, and slide right to enable.

Follow the instructions below to enable the ecobee3 Today Widget in Notification Center.

Step 1: Swipe down from the top of the screen on your iOS device. Tap on Today if it’s not already selected. Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit.
