Guest Post: ecobee gives families peace of mind

by on August 19, 2015

The following is a guest blog written by active ecobee community member Jereme Swoboda. Let us know if you would like to write for the ecobee.com blog!

The ecobee3 has a number of helpful capabilities. One feature unique to ecobee3 is specifically suited for families with young children. Solving a common worry that all parents have. Is my child’s room too hot or too cold? Is my child comfortable and safe? My wife and I have a 13-month-old daughter, and her comfort and well-being are always on the top of our minds. You are always wondering, “Are they cold or hot?”, “Do I need to go check on them or let them go back to sleep on their own?”. Before we had the ecobee3 it was always a gamble, do we let her cry or go in and check on her.

Now I know you are thinking, there have to be other devices that can do this for you, and you would be correct. There are other devices that tell you the temperature of a room, but none of them allows you do view this information remotely (and easily) from any location. Even if you find a device that can allow you to view that a room is too cold, you wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. Since this technology is integrated into a Smart thermostat, you can adjust the temperature and watch the temperature in the room change to the desired temperature for your comfort. So, when your child wakes up, you can check the temperature of their room. If you think they are too hot or cold, you can immediately change it and let them go back to sleep on their own.

If you are a parent, you already know this will change everything about your nights. This feature is especially helpful when you are sleep-training infants. As with any parent, you are always worrying about your infants when they are sleeping on their own. When sleep training your child, you can’t go into their room every time they cry, but at the same time you are wondering if they are crying because they are too hot or too cold. If your infant wakes up in the middle of the night, you want to be sure they are comfortable and aren’t crying because they still getting used to sleeping in their room on their own. This feature eliminates that worry and allows you to remotely solve the problem from the comfort of your bed, instead having to get up and walk all the way to the thermostat.

ecobee3 works with a wireless remote sensor that can be placed anywhere in your home. Up to 32 remotes, sensors can be paired with each ecobee3 thermostat. During the normal part of your day, you would have the ecobee3 calculate the average temperature of your house by taking a temperature average from the sensors placed throughout your home. As a result, there are fewer hot and cold spots throughout the home. The amazing part of all this ecobee3 takes this technology a step further. ecobee3 allows you prioritize the remote sensors. During specific times of the day, for example at night or during your child’s nap times, you can configure the ecobee3 to use the sensor in your child’s room only. Therefore automatically ensuring your child room is always at the perfect temperature to keep them safe and comfortable while they are sleeping.

From our experience, this is the best feature of the ecobee3. It gives us peace of mind at all times that our daughter is comfortable and safe. I think any parent would pay any price to be able to say that at all times. With the ecobee3, you can at the very least say that for part of the day.
