The convenience of ecobee, on your wrist

by on April 20, 2015

Back in September, 2014, a bunch of us at the ecobee headquarters got together in the lunch room to watch Apple’s Special Event. Leading up to the event, the iPhones 6 and 6+ were pretty much a foregone conclusion, but what everyone was holding their breath for was Apple’s “wrist wearable thingy”.

When the Apple Watch was ultimately announced, everyone at ecobee agreed that this was another way for you to control your comfort, and in style. Imagine, the powerful insights and control you’ve come to expect from ecobee, with convenient access right from your wrist! With that in mind, we’ve been hard at work on our app for Apple Watch for over 6 months and are excited to share the results with you.

Before beginning work on the app, we looked at the most frequently used features of our mobile app, along with the most important information that our customers want at the turn of their wrists. We reimagined how you’d want to control your comfort from your wrist, taking in to consideration how it will feel and fit into your every day.

We wanted to ensure that every interaction is just a single tap away knowing that you’ll likely be on the go and don’t have a lot of time to spend digging through menus. Furthermore, we took advantage of the built in functionality of the Apple Watch, for example, use Force Touch to reveal “Quick Changes” for Home, Away, Fan On, and Fan Off, so it’s super easy to use.

We are proud to see our app featured on Apple’s official Apple Watch page for App Store Apps and are looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

What can I do with the ecobee app for Apple Watch?

We want to provide you with the best Apple Watch experience – one that balances insights and control with ease of use and convenience.

First, is all the information we provide you for peace of mind: you can see the name of your thermostat (swipe left to switch between thermostats, scroll down to see all sensors connected to a thermostat), view the current temperature in your home and compare it to your desired temperature to ensure nothing is awry, and check whether your heating or cooling equipment is currently running.

Next, we give you easy access to common functionality to help you make changes on the go: tap on the desired temperature bubble and press the up or down arrow to change your desired temperature, and use Force Touch to access “Quick Changes”.

ecobee has always offered the most robust remote monitoring and control functionality, with iOS and Android mobile apps, as well as web portal access from any browser. With the launch of our ecobee app for Apple Watch, our desire is to continue to find new ways to create the very best ecobee experience for you.
