What is Home Automation?
byon July 3, 2014
In simple terms, home automation refers to the automated control of appliances, gadgets, and devices around the home, including but not limited to:
- Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
The goal in each case is to increase convenience (and save time) by automating tasks that don’t necessarily require manual interaction, improve home comfort by allowing appliances to make smarter decisions for you, maximize energy efficiency and savings by automatically turning off appliances when not in use, and deliver peace of mind.
Home automation is generally achieved by connecting appliances to computing devices (smartphones, tablets, personal computers) using a wired or wireless home network. This enables you to monitor, manage, and control your home remotely.
A home with a network of connected appliances is interchangeable referred to as a smart home or a connected home. The network of connected appliances is what is known as the Internet of Things.
